ZUNARI KABUTO WITH BEAR HAIR

Antique Japanese Samurai Zunari-Kabuto from the early Edo period 1600-1868 .Thick coating of rough textured lacquer over bachi or bowl of the helmet & four lame, ` Shikoro` , or neck protector with silk bindings.
Small fukugaiashi & a mounting for the Maedate . Interior hand stitched Hemp liner. Bear skin over the bachi kept the samurai warmer in the colder months during campaigns in the Northern parts of Japan.
Zunari -kabuto`s origins started around the mid 16th C it is believed, though a very similar style only smaller existed early into the muromachi period. Generally the zunari -Kabuto is the base on which a Kawari -kabuto or strangely shaped helmet is formed from. Overall condition original & very good.
